(KLAS) — More than 340,000 people in southern Nevada are unsure where to find their next meal and it’s estimated one in five children are living in food-insecure households and often go hungry.
It’s a problem plaguing our community and community organizations are stepping in to help during Hunger Action Month this September.
Three Square Food Bank is leading a month-long community food drive to raise awareness and help decrease food insecurity. The public can help in multiple ways, including donating at a local grocery store, at the gas pump, or even when you’re out to eat at a Las Vegas Strip restaurant.
From Sept. 1 through Sept. 30, you can donate directly to the food bank at any local Albertsons and Vons checkout line using the pin pad. Or when you’re dining at participating restaurants at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Three Square Food Bank. This year’s participating restaurants include Joe’s Seafood Prime Steak & Stone Crab, Sushi Roku, The Palm Las Vegas, True Food Kitchen, Carmine’s Family Style Italian Restaurant, RPM Italian, Water Grill, and Café Lola.
You can also fill up for a good cause from Sept. 2 through Oct. 31 by filling up at the Giving Pump — which are the purple colored pumps at participating Shell stations across Las Vegas. A protion of that fill-up goes to Three Square. For more information, including locations, go to https://www.threesquare.org/hunger-action-month
