(KSNV) — Despite the searing summer heat, Las Vegas Strip casinos continued a cooling trend even as tourism and flyer numbers rose.
The gaming win for casinos on the Strip dipped for the second straight month in August, according to new figures from the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Strip casinos reported a win revenue of $643.7 million, down about 3.5 percent from August last year, when the gaming win was $666.8 million.
Statewide, the gaming win was $1.16 billion, down 3.8 percent year-over-year. That’s also down from the $1.3 billion win revenue reported for all Nevada casinos this past July.
Nevada ultimately collected $57.7 million in percentage fees based on the taxable revenue generated in August.
Unlike the gaming figures, Las Vegas’ tourism volume trended upward.
The city hosted just under 3.4 million visitors for the month of August, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. That’s an increase of 2.4 percent compared to the year-ago month.
That rise was thanks in part to Labor Day weekend straddling the end of August and the beginning of September, the LVCVA wrote in its executive summary. Las Vegas also hosted two Raiders preseason games and concerts with country music star Morgan Wallen.
Hotel occupancy was largely flat at 81.2 percent, while the average daily rate jumped 11.7 percent, up to $175.44.
The Clark County Department of Aviation also reported that August’s passenger total was up 5.1 percent compared to a year ago, at 4.85 million flyers.
