I was invited to interview celebrities along the red carpet at the Official Awards Honoring Outstanding Casino Artists, Executives and Venues at the world’s largest gathering of Casino Executives and Professionals, in the Hard Rock Hotel.  The Atrium was filled with over 1,000 people as many were entering the Vinyl showroom for the awards and entertainment.

I interviewed Ruby Lewis, who appears as Marilyn Monroe in “Marilyn, the Musical”, the “Human Nature” holiday show, and previously featured in several roles in all three different story sequences of “Baz-The Show” (Mandalay Bay & Plaza).

Ruby even performed a quick version of Marilyn’s “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” for me. She sang with such emotion, a perfect version of the memorable Marilyn Monroe.

Bill Engvall, nominated for Casino Comedian of the Year (Winner), has been known in Las Vegas for many years for his special brand of comedy. As Bill said, “I’ve been here since .99 cent shrimp cocktails.”

We reminisced about the nights Bill spent as opening act for Wayne Newton at the Stardust on their unique stage. The stage runway was built into the audience for their lavish production shows where the showgirls, singers, dancers, camels, horses, and everything else paraded around the audience. The entire audience was provided a close-up of everything!!

Bill called the stage the last “classic” showroom in Las Vegas. “I decided to walk around the runway one time for my act but too many people were looking at my back.

My dream always was to play Las Vegas at this level back in the 50’s. I just finished a tour, a movie called “The Neighbor” and another called “Monster Party”, I’m 61 this year and just enjoying life right now.

Gina Capecci-Adams, Vice President, of “Legends in Concert” (Flamingo), nominated for the Casino Production Show of the Year (Winner), explained their latest additions, “Legends has been around for 35 years and is the longest running show in Las Vegas and you can see us 6 nights a week in the Donny & Marie Showroom. We have Bruno Mars, George Michael, Donna Summer, Elvis, and a cast of eight singers and dancers with a five-piece band.”

Sandy “All that in one show. It’s bigger than your “Legends” show I saw a few years ago! I’ll have to see the show again.”

Gina added, “We’re excited to be nominated for the Casino Production Show of the Year and hope the show will be here for another 35 years!”

The Casino Entertainment Awards was a grand affair, honoring the best of the best. Las Vegas entertainer Kelly Clinton Holmes, the perfect choice for Master of Ceremonies, has an extensive background as a singer, actress comedienne, impressionist, television personality, MC, and host. She fit her role as MC with humor and expertise.
