Biden should vet Nevada’s Johnnie Rawlinson for the Supreme Court

It looks like Joe Biden is looking for the best candidate for the United States Supreme Court and he is looking for a woman of color. Many would be surprised to read my editorial this week and wonder how a Conservative, Republican woman like me could feel so confident about someone who is a Democrat. With due respect to all those who deserve respect — I personally have great respect for an African American woman who throughout the years has shown nothing but integrity — I don’t believe Joe Biden should rule out someone who shows herself to be well qualified for the job: Johnnie Blakeney Rawlinson.

Judge Rawlinson and Viveca Monet Woods became the first African American females admitted to practice law in Nevada. Rawlinson served as deputy district attorney and chief deputy for over 17 years in the office of the Clark County District Attorney in Las Vegas and served as a United States district judge nominated by President Bill Clinton and confirmed by the United States Senate in 1997. She was the first female judge to serve on the United States District Court for the District of Nevada. Johnnie Rawlinson is currently a federal judge in the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. She was also nominated by President Bill Clinton. I believe the American people would be extremely safe and well served with Judge Rawlinson in the United States Supreme Court.

The country was founded on the right to bear arms: it’s called the Second Amendment

Every time I hear Joe Biden speaking about the Second Amendment the first person that comes to mind is the late Fidel Castro from Communist Cuba. One of the very first things Fidel Castro said when he arrived in Havana was: “Weapons for what?” Joe Biden, rather than demand leftist prosecutors throw criminals in jail and end the dangerous practice of no cash bail reform, announced a series of gun grabs, including a national firearms registration database. I understand that the poor old man cannot think clearly anymore, but can someone please bring him to his senses and make him understand that in the first month of 2022 nearly 30 police officers were shot in the line of duty, and two young police officers responding to a 911 call were assassinated by a criminal element in New York. Prosecutors backed by George Soros refused to enforce the law, and many judges are allowing career criminals to walk free without even a slap on the wrist, resulting in bloodshed in the streets of our cities. Joe Biden proposed a further crackdown on Second Amendment rights. During his visit to New York after the senseless killing of the two police officers, he had the audacity to say, “This doesn’t violate anybody’s Second Amendment rights. There’s no violation of the Second Amendment rights. There is no amendment that’s absolute. When the amendment was passed, it didn’t say anybody can own a gun or any kind of weapon, so there is no reason why you should be able to buy certain assault weapons.” In my humble opinion, he is in agreement with the war on cops.

This is the only profession where employees know when to report to work, but never know if they will be getting off work. Here in Las Vegas many complain, myself included, if we need to call 911 for any reason — including if it is about a homeless person threatening the life of a local business owner — and they transfer you to the non-emergency line and the call-center takes more than 45 minutes to answer the line. Then it takes between two to three hours for the police officer to show up. To be honest, who can blame them? They want to go back to their families at the end of their shift. Personally, I have never owned a gun, but at this time every law-abiding citizen has the right to own a gun to protect their family, property and themselves.
