Carl Ray Williams is a singer/composer known for the famous Nashville-style and especially his own-
style! The Nashville stars seemed to like Carl Ray as he attracted their attention more and more. We all know the Nashville-style but how has Carl Ray changed things to create his own style?
Carl Ray: “I grew up with a lot of different music singing in the choir, the church, acapella groups, jazz, country bands, R&B bands, and a little classical. I love all music which set me up to what I am today.”
One country star, Johnny Nash discovered Carl Ray and became his mentor. They became friends going on trips together, hunting and fishing, both singing in the church choir, going to his house for BBQ.
“Carl Ray: “Johnny Nash sang like a troubadour with
ballads, songs that had stories and loved all types of music. He gave me my first guitar and taught me the dos and don’ts of the music business. Johnny Nash asked me to write songs for his album. He told me, anytime you sing don’t sing like me, I want you to make the song your own!
I was given his song “I Can See Clearly Now” and I changed it for my latest album.”
