“Successful Actor Courtney Gains Adds Singing and Songwriting to his Career” By Sandy Zimmerman

SZ: “I was happy to meet and interview celebrated actor/ producer/ director/ singer/ songwriter Courtney Gains, now appearing in the new hilarious comedy “Queen Bees”. This all-star cast- Ellen Burstyn, James Caan, Ann-Margaret, Jane Curtin, and Christopher Lloyd take viewers on a comedic ride inside a retirement community.

Gains: “With “Queen Bees” I had a chance to work with
all of those stars in one film, I wasn’t going to say no.”

SZ: “You played a mean man?”

Gains: “It wouldn’t be the first time.”

His cameo part as a mean biker stands out. There are so many great actors through the years who developed a tough, mean persona in films. “IMDB featured “actors who’ve portrayed the baddest, meanest, toughest rock ’em- sock ’em roles of all time.”

Gains: I appeared as a mean harassing character in the ultimate bad guy role, Malachai, in the horror film “Children of the Corn” (1984). The Children took over the city.”

SZ: “Children took over the city, don’t give them any ideas!”

Gains: “That role put me on the map and 30 years later that was the most recognized role I’ve ever done. I have appeared in over 100 films”.

SZ: “That’s quite an accomplishment! It’s great to be part of a movie with any of the stars. You appeared in some really big films like “Back to the Future” (1985), a giant hit.”

Gains: “Spielberg produced this film with high hopes but none of us realized this would became the trilogy of all time. I am blessed to make my living doing what I enjoy.”

Gains other films include: “Can’t Buy Me Love (1987), “Colors” (1988), Hans in “The ‘Burbs (1989) and “Memphis Belle” (1990). His most recent credits include “Sweet Home Alabama” (2002), “Benny Bliss and the Disciples of Greatness” (2009), which I also produced, “Faster” (2010), “L.A.Noir” (video game), ”Field of Lost Shoes” and “Fun House Massacre”.”

Gains: “I’ve worked with a lot of stars, in fact, with Christopher Lloyd twice but we’ve never had a scene together.”

SZ: “With all of your successful roles in films, you are sharing acting with a new career in music.”

Gains: “My new solo album “ACOUSTIC GAINS”, Vol. 1: Cherish (Acoustic Version) and There Was a Time” features all of my acoustic works.”

“With all my experiences as an actor and all of my heavy duty acting training, I am able to connect to people’s emotions which connect a guitar and vocal that conveys feelings about and some sort of emotional contact.

One song I wrote is in the movie “My Red Neck Neighbors” and also produced a movie “Benny Bliss and the Disciples of Greatness”, a comic anti-technology message.
