I am very pleased to see that my good friend, Judge Nancy Oesterle, as always, has sent me a Thanksgiving card.
It is not the card itself, but what is in the card. Nancy always recounts what her year has been all about and that makes me happy most of the time.
Of course, there are always some sad parts in everyone’s life and Nancy is no exception to the rule. I learned that her Dad has died; I wish I would have known so I could have shown my respect to the family.
There was also the good part—Nancy and Steve have been together for thirteen years. Thirteen years, wow!!! I was told that she has to wait for Steve to finish high school before he can move in with her (LOL).
The last time I saw Nancy on the bench was a couple of years ago when she was covering for Judge Zimmerman and I did not recognize her; she was even prettier than ever and I had to ask the Marshal who the new judge was and he said Nancy Oesterle.
I went back to the judge’s chamber to say hello and chat with my good friend Julie, Judge Zimmerman’s judicial assistant, but Nancy, as one of the most hard-working judges ever, never came down from the bench and I had to leave to give someone else a hard time.
Happy belated Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours, my dear friend Nancy.
I met Nancy Oesterle when she first ran for office. I met her during a campaign party and I was introduced to her by the man who was running against her, Michael Schaefer.
Michael told me that “this young lady is the best candidate for the judge position, she is the best”; it shocked me when I asked that beautiful blonde candidate with the million-dollar smile who she was running against and she said to me that she was running against the man that had just introduced her to me, Michael Schaefer.
I have seen a lot of friendly political campaigns; most political campaigns in years past were all professional and friendly, but I’ve never seen a candidate introducing his or her opponent as “the best candidate for the job”—only Michael Schaefer.
Nowadays one does not see such political courtesy too often, but that is how honest Michael Schaefer is, an open book, even if some time an open book may have a missing page.
Today Michael Schaefer has a dual residency between Las Vegas and San Diego, California (notice that I did not say just Diego so do not call my Las Vegas any other name; don’t be lazy) where he is holding a very important political office, he is Vice Chairman of District 4 of the Board of Equalization, that covers San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange County.
I tried to call Michael in San Diego to learn the exact title of his political office, but he may have been sleeping or did not want to bother with me.
They asked me who was calling and when I gave my name they immediately, without hesitation, told me that he was not available and I wonder if I would have said that I was with the Los Angeles Times or the San Diego Tribune, then they would’ve put the call through, but it is OK; when Michael gets here on December 28 I will hire a secretary for that day so she can tell him that I am not in (LOL).
And now on a little more serious note I was very happy to learn that my friend Nelson Sardelli is getting involved in serious politics, if there is such a thing as serious politics.
Nelson, a well known worldwide entertainer who has played Las Vegas for a long time, has made many movies and is also the founder of FIORE, where I am also president like every other male member is, and taking the politics in Nevada very seriously.
The new organization founded by Nelson is called “Non Partisan Voters United” and I heard that there are lots of important people that are saying PRESENT to Nelson’s new idea.
Next week this newspaper is going to have a full report on Non Partisan Voters United and what its mission is.
I hope that Non Partisan Voters United pays attention to the next Nevada governor’s race and will be able to back a good candidate that can take that guy in the governor’s mansion out of there.
So far, since last October 12, three thousand (3,000) people have been evicted from their homes; I hope that Non Partisan Voters United is able to evict Steve Sisolak from the governor’s mansion.
