I received a media alert to join the filming of one of the biggest names in magic, world-renowned illusionist Criss Angel star of the “MINDFREAK” production show (Planet Hollywood). This time, the reason for bringing the cameras was Angel’s generosity of donating $250,000.00 worth of groceries and entertainment to 100 families whose children suffer from pediatric cancer.
Criss Angel waited for the large Sysco trucks to arrive then became busy inside each truck lifting the boxes along with volunteers bringing the food to the large tables as the cameras caught the action.
Angel was interviewed by Ch. #3, Ch. #13, and other news outlets, “Today we are going to feed 100 families for 6-8 weeks and will return in 6-8 weeks to do this again. I wanted to give them something to escape this reality that is pediatric cancer so they can not worry about having a great evening with their family. Las Vegas is strong when we have community and love and we will get through this together because the human spirit is resealant. We have to stay optimistic and we have to believe in hope because without hope you have nothing.
Angel thanked the groups and as he said, “all the incredible volunteers who came out.”
The parking lot was lined-up with the families’ cars and Angel also helped fill up each car with food and supplies.
Criss Angel’s own child, Johnny Crisstopher was diagnosed with pediatric cancer and treated at the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation. The moment his child yelled “I love you” and waved from the second floor window of his hospital room, Criss immediately answered, “I love you more”- a tender moment between a father and his son.
During his busy schedule, it was comforting to see that Criss Angel cares about people today. The Cure 4 The Kids Foundation’s motto: “Every Kid Deserves a Cure”!
Angel explained, “If facing the harsh reality of your child going through a life-threatening disease was not enough, it becomes even worse when faced with unemployment and the effects of COVID-19. The magic of love, positivity and hope is what I want people to remember during these hard times.”
Recently this writer attended the dedication of a special Criss Angel mural on the wall of Johnny Crisstopher’s room (see photos in this article).
Not only did families receive vital food boxes, but Caesars Entertainment, Criss Angel and BASE Entertainment also generously donated 1,000 free show tickets to future performances of MINDFREAK at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino to families and frontline workers at Cure 4 The Kids Foundation and Summerlin Hospital.
“Providing show tickets to the well-deserving families and employees at Cure 4 The Kids Foundation and Summerlin Hospital is a small token of our appreciation for the incredible service they provide to our community, and we look forward to entertaining them in the near future,” said Jason Gastwirth, President of Entertainment at Caesars Entertainment. “We appreciate everyone’s hard work during this unprecedented crisis and we wanted to lift spirits through the gift of live entertainment,” further explained Mark Maluso, Chief Operating Officer at BASE Entertainment.
