I was invited to the Ellis Island Hotel & Casino for the opening of their Front Yard, a beautiful Beer Garden and Restaurant. Christina Ellis, Director of Marketing and daughter of the hotel’s founder, Frank Ellis, greeted the guests, “Welcome to our Front Yard!” The name Front Yard has a homey feeling of a comfortable, friendly place to enjoy as though you are visiting friends or family.

our brewer’s recipes are unique.” Ellis Island, known for their beers, the Front Yard Beer Garden offers two-stories of fun, and more beer selections along with entertainment and dining.  

There are two bars with 18 beer taps on the first floor and 12 on the second, including specialty brews available only in the Front Yard. Ellis Island’s Front Yard not only has great beer, but great food too!

Christina feels, “We put our own spin on our recipes with a new family-based menu similar to the meals my grandmother made for him growing up and later my dad made for us when we were growing up.” 

The buffet tables were filled with tasty delights while guests sampled their special recipes. My fave was the exceptionally large meat balls called “Big Ol’ Meatballs” bathed in Parmigiano-Reggiano sauce prepared with roast garlic marinara, fresh Italian herbs and spices. The Front Yard serves  family-style, 8 ounces ($8.99)! 
Their version of Mac & Cheese added house-made bacon for a crispier touch, Cavatappi pasta, a type of thick, hollow macaroni pasta, with four different cheeses- Cheddar, smoked Gouda, Parmesan and Gruyère. You not only savor the creaminess of each cheese but a different taste with every bite! ($6.99).
   
The other dishes for the party were filled with an exciting fusion of sauces and spices. The Front Yard’s wood-fried Margherita Fiore Flatbread was topped with vine ripened tomato sauce, crushed garlic pesto, fresh basil herbs, and four cheeses- fresh Mozzarella, creamy Burrata, and Romano cheese ($11.99).
