In the most outrageous and cynical way last week Clark County Commissioners pushed an agenda to change the McCarran Airport name to Harry Reid’s name, because the personal opinion of outgoing county commissioner Christina R. Giunchigliani, AKA Chris G, “McCarran was not a gentleman” speaking like she knew the late senator when, according to old records, she was not even in this country during Senator McCarran’s time in office, begging the question: Is Reid more of a gentleman than McCarran?

Giunchigliani, AKA Chris G, “McCarran was not a gentleman” speaking like she knew the late senator when, according to old records, she was not even in this country during Senator McCarran’s time in office, begging the question: Is Reid more of a gentleman than McCarran?In the eyes of many Nevadans, they are both alike with Reid taking the higher votes, taking into consideration the era change; McCarran may have been a racist, but let’s be realistic: in those days racism may have been the norm; what is Harry Reid’s excuse in today’s world?
On March 24, 1953, at the obvious urging of Nevada political kingpin Pat McCarran, 12 hotels and casinos canceled ads with the Las Vegas Sun for political and personal discrepancies between the powerful Senator and the newspaper’s editorial view, but in those days things were a little different and Hank Greenspun managed to make a few phone calls after learning of McCarran’s involvement and the boycott ended just a few weeks later.
Las Vegas Tribune has been suffering the hate of Harry Reid for years and no one dared to speak about that because they most likely were more afraid of Reid than the casinos were of McCarran, leaving the question of who is bad and who is worse?
Let’s not forget the infamous Harry Reid speech at the U.S. Senate in 1993 about the Mexicans coming illegally to the United States.
“If making it easy to be an illegal alien isn’t enough, how about offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant? No sane country would do that, right?” Reid said. “Guess again. If you break our laws by entering this country without permission and give birth to a child, we reward that child with U.S. citizenship and guarantee full access to all public and social services this society provides. And that’s a lot of services,” concluded the “senator who can do no wrong,” Harry Reid.
That, in the eyes of those who see Reid as some kind of God, is not being racist, it is been “an honest American looking out after the people of this nation.”
Many people had concluded that, besides helping former state senator Tick Segerblom, commission chairman, now newly elected-governor, Steve Sisolak is pushing for the airport name change as a “return favor” for Reid helping him to win the Governor seat in the November 8 election.
Richard S. “Tick” Segerblom, who initiated and campaigned two years ago for the name change, is using his legislative experience to help Sisolak to make possible his campaign vow to former U.S. Senator Harry Reid; they both appear to be Reid’s clan followers. Very little publicity has the County Commission Board offered to this issue, perhaps with the idea that very few people know about “Item 51” and would not be showing up at the meeting to speak against “newly elected governor Steve Sisolak’s pet project” that was given to him on a silver platter by former socialist dope-pusher senator and newly elected county commissioner, Tick Segerblom.
This should be an issue that touches every Nevadan, especially every Las Vegan that makes a living in one way or another from the visitors, the tourists, the gamblers and the conventioneers; Las Vegas is a brand name known internationally and worldwide, and if the name McCarran, which has carried the airport, is so dramatically damaged and will be sad to just a few people with clout, then it should be changed, if it must be, to just the Las Vegas International Airport only.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has done a magnificent job publicizing the name Las Vegas, making it a brand name known to the whole world and most people don’t even know that McCarran Airport is the legal name for Las Vegas Airport, so this is a perfect time to utilize the famous phrase “if it is not broken, don’t fix it.”
