Fiore standing up once again for Las Vegans

Once again Councilwoman Michele Fiore has proven her courage and her integrity regardless of the situation and even the consequences when she publicly read an email that showed the vindictive communication of fellow Councilman Bob Coffin with someone in his email list referring to a local developer that is suing him and his pal and fellow councilman, Steve Siroka, in Federal Court.
In the email Coffin is complaining that if the developer wins in federal court, he may “not be able to vote in the Badlands Golf Course” perhaps interfering with their plan to help someone else.
On October 4 of last year Las Vegas Tribune founder and publisher, Rolando Larraz, spoke at the public comment segment of the bi-monthly city council meeting calling the members of the council a “bunch of useless people” with the “exception of Councilman Stavros Anthony and Councilwoman Michele Fiore”; that statement cost the old timer local journalist to be taken out of the meeting, escorted by City marshals and banned from entering city hall in the future.
At the November 7th city council meeting Developer Yohan Lowie, before speaking to the board, commented “this is how we know that the fix is in” prompting Councilman Coffin to engage in a quick argument with the developer using the public comment segment, which is not acceptable by the rules of city council, giving the impression that councils Coffin and Tarkanian are not held by the same standard as the rest of the council and are treated as if they are above the law.
Las Vegas Mayor, Carolyn Goodman, who was not present during Tarkanian’s incident and no one else in the city has responded to the newspaper’s editorial demanding an apology and a comment by the city council board disrespecting a member of the community, a member of the local media, and sixty-year resident of Las Vegas with a history of creating within the community.
During the same November 7th city council meeting Councilwoman Michele Fiore bravely pulled out a copy of an email Councilman Coffin had sent to others involved with the Badlands Golf Course controversy where Coffin used derogatory wording against those who opposed his agenda.
Developer Yohan Lowie owns the land in question which is zoned for residential development; he has been bravely fighting some of the most notables’ power to be like former gaming mogul Jack Binion and gaming attorney Frank Schreck.
On October 12, 2016, Las Vegas KTNV Channel 13 television station reporting about Badlands Golf Course issue criticizing the city of Las Vegas with an on-the-air report stating, “The words and actions of two Las Vegas City Council members and the silence of the rest have some wondering whether our local government leaders can be fair when doing the public’s business. Allegations of bias, prejudice, collusion, and corruption are costing taxpayers millions in a case that puts the ugly side of politics on full display.”
Las Vegas attorney and Nevada Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison, representing Developer Yohan Lowie, speaking on behalf of his client stated on the record, “You’ve never seen anything like this before in the history of the City of Las Vegas. There’s never been a project like this that has been more mishandled, that has been the subject of more government abuse than this project.”

The email written by Councilman Bob Coffin was also sent to every one of the board members, and as far as we know, none of them reacted to his disrespectful, unprofessional and unethical correspondence referring to a Las Vegas resident; it seems to be a pattern for people who attend the city council or appear before the board of city
councils to be mistreated, disrespected, abused and denied to speak freely as is their right under the First Amendment.
“Many people who read that email believe that Councilman Coffin should be publicly reprimanded for his actions, regardless of how the Mayor and or the Mayor Pro-Tem feel about it and regardless of their personal relationship with the councilman,” commented Las Vegas Tribune founder and publisher Rolando Larraz, whose own relation with the city official has become estranged.
No words were available at press time if the Las Vegas City Council Board is taking any action for the unethical and unprofessional behavior of its elected official, Bob Coffin, or if there is any violation of ethics rules in this matter.
