I believe that it is very important to have honest, fair and just men
and women sitting on the benches in our courts, judges that can impose justice without prejudicial vision.
However, the judicial race is not the only one that hit the community close — the Sheriff race is also a very important race for us working class citizens and we need to learn how to pick the right candidate, the candidate that will be able to protect us as well as the tourists and the world-famous Strip.
For many years the position of Sheriff has been an inherited position offered by the outgoing Sheriff to the candidate of his choice to keep the legacy and the ownership of the position going.
In my opinion that is a gesture of disrespect and an insult to the
intelligence of the community; we are supposed to be living in a
modern world, in a free country that does not allow passing the throne
from one to another, bypassing and ignoring the normality of an
election as it should be in a modern country.
Yesterday I was watching television and saw a commercial for Sheriff
Gillespie’s anointed candidate, Joe Lombardo, who claims that he has a
plan to hire more police officers.
For a very long time Sheriff Gillespie has been begging for more money
for more cops, but now his favorite candidate is telling us that he
has the way to hire more police officers? How is that?
Why isn’t Joe Lombardo telling his master how to hire more police
officers so he can leave his post with a tiny bit of dignity and a
halfway decent record, allowing us to possibly remember him as a
little better that how he really is?
The reputation of the present police administration is a complete
disaster; the morale in the department is shameful and the harmony
among the officers is at the bottom of the barrel.
Never in the history of the Department has there been such disloyalty,
such an antagonistically and distrustful relationship among officers
as exists under the present administration — and Joe Lombardo is still
part of that administration as the Assistant Sheriff — so the voters
should draw their own conclusion.
If the next Sheriff that you elect is Joe Lombardo, the same
atmosphere will continue and the only ones affected will be the rank
and file and us, the community, who would still live in fear of the
police and have no protection because all the police officers would be
working for the casinos and hotels.
Joe Lombardo has almost one million dollars in campaign contributions
from the gaming industry; what should that tell us?
If by mistake Joe Lombardo becomes the next Sheriff, you can count on
the following: having the same high crime rate, officer involved
shootings will continue rising, and police morale will keep going
down. (How can we expect the police to be fair with the citizens when
they are killing each other?) The police will still be working
hand-in-hand with the prosecutors and walking into court every day and
committing perjury with the blessing of the judges who were endorsed
by the police union.
Let’s use our head; let’s use our common sense and not let others’
money blind us; the money that Lombardo already has is for Lombardo;
he is not going to share it with anyone but himself.
Let’s face it people: Joseph Lombardo has already been bought and paid
for. He belongs to the Strip, the hotels and casino executives and he
doesn’t care for any of us, Lombardo told The Laughlin Nevada Times
that he might have support from Gillespie and Young, but he has
different ideas. Really? He doesn’t even believe that.
If he had different ideas he would not have the support of the former
sheriff and the Sheriff. They need a puppet to continue Gillespie’s
regime as it is right now.
Please do not insult our intelligence; I don’t know about the rest of
the community, but I can assure you that even if I speak with an
accent, I do not think with an accent, I promise.
Assistant Sheriff Joe Lombardo told The Laughlin Nevada Times: “We
have approximately 111 police officer vacancies and we currently have
approximately 120 officers in the academy, so we are at full
strength,” but his boss spent months, maybe years, begging for money
like a baby crying for a toy looking for money to hire more police
officers. I wonder who is lying?
It bothers me to see how this man could help to improve our police
department and never did a thing until now when he wants to replace
his boss; or better yet, until now that his boss wants to be replaced
I hope that the people of Clark County go to the polls with their eyes
open and not let this man, who, for the last four years has been the
second in command and has seen his police force go down the tube, did
NOTHING to protect the name, the integrity, or the reputation of at
one time the best police department in the nation.
For once I ask the people of Clark County to use their common sense
and to think of our future, the future of our next generation and the
safety of all residents: DON’T vote for Joseph Lombardo AKA Joe
Lombardo for Sheriff of Clark County.
Look how many officer involved shootings there have been in the last
four years alone; look how many citizens including veterans and
hard-working citizens have been killed by officers with the Las Vegas
Metropolitan Police Department with the administration doing nothing
to protect our residents — and LOMBARDO IS PART OF THAT CORRUPT
I am not talking about bank robbers; I am not talking about drug
dealers trying to avoid an arrest; I am not talking about pimps that
were playing cowboys and robbers in their fancy cars; I am talking
about hard-working decent human beings that had the misfortune of
being face-to-face with a police officer that “feared for his life,”
as always happens when a trigger-happy officer kills someone with a
clean criminal record.
I hope that for once my readers will believe that it will not make any
big difference to me who the Sheriff is. I have little interaction
with police officers: I drive within the speed limit, I don’t talk and
drive, I don’t drink alcohol so I would never drive under the
influence, and I don’t distract myself while I am driving.
I spend the whole day at the office not bothering anyone and they
should know that simply by listening to the wiretap they have in my
office and on my telephones; at my age I am home on time to watch the
six o’clock news and two hours later I am sleeping. Good night all.
