The Police Protective Association Metro, the union that represents the rank and file police officers working with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and Las Vegas Police Protective Association Civilian Employees have informed Watkins that their organization has given him their endorsement.
Watkins, a 34-year veteran in the legal community, is also a former colonel with the military and a judge with thirty years of courtroom experience.
Former U.S. Senator and former Nevada Governor Richard Bryan, former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and former Stewart Bell, well-known and respected name in the legal community, have endorsed and supported Watkins candidature.
John G. Watkins is the only candidate in the race for Department 2 in District Court with the highest rating on Martindale-Hubbell, and has presented cases in the U. S. Supreme Court and is being endorsed by all major law enforcement organizations.
Watkins is also the only one in the race with a military background and a criminal and civil law background, and who has served as a Deputy District Attorney before going into a successful private practice.
During an interview with Channel 8, the NBC affiliate in Las Vegas, Watkins told the reporter, “My military experience has provided me
with leadership skills. I have handled over 100,000 legal cases without any ethical violations.”
Watkins’ loyalty and dedication to every client’s case is way above the normal attorney-client relationship, sometimes beyond the financial obligation of the attorney’s responsibility.
Watkins has also received the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police, Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers, Juvenile Justice Supervisors Association, Southern Nevada Central Labor Council, Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters, IBEW Local 357, and some of the most prestigious law offices, such as Flangas & McMillan Law Group, Crystal Eller Law Group, and Turco & Draskovich have hosted
fund-raising for the candidate for District Court Department 2 in the upcoming November 4 election.
“John Glenn Watkins, during his 34 years practicing law, has specialized in cases of DUI, reckless driving and other issues in that field; and for years, Attorney John Watkins has been praised by those who know him and work with him — even on opposite sides in the courtroom — for his ethics and his professionalism,” the Las Vegas Tribune wrote in a June 20 front page article regarding a controversial and inflammatory statement found in campaign fliers that some ill-intentioned individuals with one of Watkins’ opposition candidates in the race, controlled by campaign bully Dave Thomas, wrote to bite him in the back.
A fact worth noting and taking into consideration in this race is that despite the close relationship between Dave Thomas and the LVPPA, the union did not endorse Thomas’ client for the District Court Department 2 race.
