stationary list of supporters for attorney John G. Watkins, candidate
for District Court Department 2. And now three of the most likable and most respected
names in the political and legal arena of Nevada have authorized the
adding of their names to that list.
Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, former Nevada Governor and U.S.
Senator for Nevada, Richard Bryant, and a man who does not need any
introduction — Stewart Bell — have given their blessings to the
District Court Judge candidate for Department 2, which was vacated by the retirement of Judge Valerie Vega.
Watkins has been practicing law in Nevada for thirty-four years and
has experienced all facets of the legal system and has managed to keep
his reputation and integrity at the top of the line while being
respected by attorneys on both sides of the table.
“I have extensive legal experience in both civil and criminal matters.
My background as a criminal prosecutor and defense attorney allows me
to see both sides of issues presented,” Watkins told Channel 8 during
a candidate survey.
Additionally, Watkins told Channel 8, “My military experience has
provided me with leadership skills. I have handled over 100,000 legal
cases without any ethical violations.”
His peers through Martindale Hubbell rate Watkins a perfect 5. No
other candidate for Dist Court Department 2 has that rating.
His appellate experience before the United States Supreme Court, Ninth
Circuit Court of Appeals, and Nevada Supreme Court is extensive and
far exceeds the other candidates for District Court Department 2.
Watkins’ loyalty and dedication to every client’s case is way above
the normal attorney-client relationship, sometimes beyond the
financial obligation of the attorney’s responsibility.
Watkins has also received the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of
Police, and some of the most prestigious law offices, such as Flangas
& McMillan Law Group, Crystal Eller Law Group, and Turco & Draskovich
have hosted fund-raising for the candidate for District Court
Department 2 in the upcoming November 4 election.
“John Glenn Watkins, during his 34 years practicing law, has
specialized in cases of DUI, reckless driving and other issues in that
field; and for years, Attorney John Watkins has been praised by those
who know him and work with him — even on opposite sides in the
courtroom — for his ethics and his professionalism,” Las Vegas Tribune
wrote in a June 20 front page article regarding a controversial and
inflammatory statement found in campaign flyers that some
ill-intentioned individuals with one of Watkins’ opposition candidates
in the race, controlled by campaign bully Dave Thomas, wrote to bite
him in the back.
Dave Thomas, the husband of District Court Judge Nancy Alf, has been
having some bad luck lately; another Judge in District Court ruled
against another victim of Thomas, Family Court Judge Vincent Ochoa,
when he insisted on staying on his challenger’s case after Judge Ochoa
was involved in a public altercation when he almost attacked his
political adversary, an episode witnessed by many attorneys.
“Dirty campaign tactics are very normal every election circle but this
time creating a dirty environment campaign against John Glenn Watkins
is becoming a little difficult due to the clean record that is
attached to the name of the favorite candidate and long-time Las Vegas
attorney, retired Colonel, John Watkins,” stated Las Vegas Tribune
founder, Rolando Larraz.
