According to the Bible, the Ark of Noah was a boat built by Noah to
save him and his family, along with all those animals, from the Great
I just want to make a few comments about a local business named Noah’s
Ark Pet Salon. My advice to everyone who loves their pets is to stay
away from that place and never trust your animals to them, because
they are not safe at that place, nor are they safe under the care of
its owner, Joel Chitay.
How do I know? I have been there and paid the consequences.
That place was recommended to us by a very good friend who happens to
be their landlord, so we figured that he was very familiar with their
To begin with, the experience was very traumatic for the dogs as well
as for us, as owners of the dogs. We were not allowed to go inside to
see how their cages were displayed and how many of those cages they
have, considering that we wanted to know if more than one dog was left
in a particular cage.
We were told that the work was to be completed within two to three
hours, so we said, “Fine, we’ll wait.” But we were told that we
couldn’t wait in their empty lobby because the dogs get much too
excited if they hear the voice of their owners, which was the reason,
they told us, that they didn’t have chairs in the waiting area. So, we
decided to buy a cup of coffee and return to the parking lot and wait.
The owner noticed my concern on my face and said, “I have not been
doing this for eight months, but for ten long years.”
I was also very concerned about the owner’s own dog, a big dog named
Bella, running around the place with other small dogs.
During our time of waiting, I noticed four other dogs coming out and
no word about ours. We went in and asked again; Joel said he needed
I decided to peek through the blinds of a window and saw one of our
dogs completely wet on the floor and no sign of the other one. The
blinds were closed in my face, and he, the owner, came out and said
that I was disturbing the dogs.
Three hours passed, then four, and finally five and a half hours later
the work was completed.
To my biggest surprise, I learned that the owner’s assistants are a
14-year-old child and another young girl who looks like she doesn’t
even know the difference between apples and oranges.
Both of our dogs looked like they had been shaved by a butcher or a
drunken person. Long pieces of hair sticking out from their legs and
under their bellies. Both dogs appeared very lethargic, and slept on
the car seat all the way home.
After we got home and had the opportunity to inspect the dogs
carefully, we noticed that both of the ears of the toy poodle were
completely burned and she was in pain.
Both dogs looked like they had been drugged out. They couldn’t get up
from their beds and I had to carry them outside to do their “thing.”
These two small dogs are very active and playful, but they came home
to sleep hour after hour, without waking up, even to drink water.
I am in the habit of checking on every new medical doctor we might
need to see, to make sure they don’t have any malpractice complaints
against them. I even have a complete report on my dogs’ veterinarians,
so I was feeling guiltier per second and asking myself why I didn’t
check this place out before placing our precious dogs under their
A little too late, but I decided to check the place out after the
fact. First, they don’t even have a license to operate this type of
business. They did have a license once in another location, but it has
been revoked by the County and is under collection.
There are several complaints on Google against this place. They also
have a Facebook page with pictures of several dogs, but I can bet a
million dollars, which I don’t have, that the pictures posted are all
fake. The pictures don’t nearly resemble the type of work done to our
The owner claims that he is a groomer for show dogs, but if he gives a
show dog a haircut like the one he gave my dogs, judges would put the
dog and its owner in a drum, close the lid and throw them both away.
Do yourself and your dogs a favor and stay away from Noah’s Ark Pet
Salon at 1212 S. Eastern Avenue — otherwise your dog will be
traumatized and you will have a guilty feeling for a long, long time
because you didn’t check them out first.
