The wild Santa Ana Winds blew out of town just in time for Sandy Valley’s annual Spring Fling at Drake Park at Keystone Foundation’s Campus during the second day of Little Britches Rodeo and Competitions at adjoining BJC Arena this past weekend.
A stomping good time was had by all!
Gail Beckman (Happenings Media) and “Muscle Relaxer” Mark Gordon produced the wildly successful event by pure enthusiasm and vitality. With a little help the day of the event, everything went off without a hitch (except for horses!).
Intriguing displays of bamboo whittling, homemade crafts, metal sculptures and personal drones played alongside Little Britches Rodeo, which included roping, barrel racing, pole running, National Wranglers, and much more.
The “Imus Supercharged Barbeque” cranked out tons of chili for families who sat in the cool shade of Drake Park’s trees.
Hungry riders also enjoyed quiche-muffins (handcrafted by Ms. Beckman) and other fare for sale at the Arena’s on-site Chuck Wagon, lovingly called the “snack-shack.”
Spring Fling’s highlight was a stellar performance by Jackson Family Mama’s Wranglers Band (of Henderson’s Firelight Barn Dinner Theater) who played country and traditional songs and clogged their way into the hearts of a large audience.
Sandy Valley is the southernmost unincorporated community of Clark County (shares 89019 zip with Goodsprings and Jean).
Up and over the winding far Spring Mountain range, this scenic horse-country is nestled on a sandy plain hugging the California border. A large sod farm as well as many organic and heirloom-crop family farms dot the village. With a local tavern, convenience store, post office and cafe, this gem is a step back in time.
Sandy Valley Keystone Foundation is a small-scale multi-use campus offering classes, performances and ever-growing community events. “Like” their Facebook page to see future offerings.
This destination is a perfect day-trip to enjoy rodeo competitions, participate in off-road runs, or horse-riding at Sandy Valley ranch; or come to the next event April 23: Glider Remote Operated Plane competition at the sod farm!
