American people were tired of lies, political pimps double-talk…

  • April 1, 2018

Anyone reading this newspaper is no doubt aware that they are reading a newspaper that, according to others, no one reads; but if by some miracle someone does happen to read this column and feels like helping me out to solve this memory problem that is becoming more of an issue for me, perhaps they can jog my memory regarding those cases, dates and even positions. So far there are more than two dozen women complaining about a particular show producer,[…]

Always thinking of you, Jessie

  • March 31, 2018

When I read the press release of the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles regarding human trafficking, I don’t know if I was relieved, shocked, saddened or surprised over the many years people have ignored the problem. Human trafficking has been around and alive for years, without any interest from authorities in general. Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery; it is a serious international problem that warrants our full attention and consideration. Now the office of Governor Brian Sandoval, together[…]

PERS should stop trying to hide public records

  • March 24, 2018

The Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) should stop wasting taxpayer money and release the records of Nevada public employee retiree payments as the courts previously ordered them to do. The Reno Gazette-Journal sued for these records in 2013 and won in the state Supreme Court, which found the records are clearly covered under the state public records law. The records were released, but the very next year PERS changed how their files are maintained in an obvious ruse to dodge the[…]

High salaries and dissatisfaction follow new Chancellor

  • March 23, 2018

We try very hard to stay out and away from the Chancellor’s view because we do not want to be accused of being harsh with him, since we are, perhaps, the only newspaper in Nevada, or in the universe for that matter, that was against his appointment to the position he is now holding as Chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education. In our humble opinion, we believe that Thom Reilly is a man with more titles than anyone[…]

Seeing the beam in our own eye

  • March 23, 2018

Last Sunday, March 18, the Review-Journal came out with a very interesting commentary written by John Gresham, an author, all of whose books I have read. His commentary was titled, “Why innocent people go to prison,” a question I have asked myself many times before. Personally I know of a case where the person is not actually in prison, yet his life has been made a nightmare because of injustices toward him. He was accused of a crime he never[…]

Two different approaches to Internet provider access

  • March 23, 2018

When boiled down to its essence, the key difference between the two major political parties is this: Democrats believe government is the solution. Republicans believe government is the problem. This difference is on display with bills being pushed by two Nevada senatorial candidates — incumbent Republican Dean Heller and challenger Jacky Rosen, currently a freshman congresswoman. Rosen recently introduced legislation that would reinstate the Obama administration’s 2015 net neutrality rule, which gave the Federal Communications Commission sweeping powers to micromanage the internet.[…]

Around the R J C I am a pest

  • March 22, 2018

It has been a week of pleasant surprises during my rounds at the Regional Justice Center with a blast from the past when I saw the Honorable Nancy Oesterle presiding again while substituting for Judge Ann Zimmerman, to a five-minute visit with Audrey, the right hand person for District Attorney Steve Wolfson, all in one day. Judge Oesterle became the first female ever appointed to the court in its 89-year history when she was appointed to the bench in 1990[…]
