Merlin’s Magic Wand, the charity of Madame Tussauds’ parent company, Merlin Entertainments, is working with Communities in Schools of Nevada, specifically elementary students from Elaine Wynn Elementary, to make the big day a reality.
The children are being welcomed to celebrate the opening of Merlin Entertainment’s 100th attraction, SEA LIFE Charlotte-Concord, which
opened in February. Each of Merlin’s 100 global attractions is
welcoming 100 children through Merlin’s Magic Wand, with a goal of
10,000 deserving children receiving a memorable visit to the
attractions around the world.
Throughout the year, Merlin’s Magic Wand allows schools, hospitals and
charitable organizations and families to give their seriously ill,
disabled or disadvantaged children the chance to experience Merlin
Entertainments attractions worldwide for free. Qualified organizations
and individuals interested in receiving complimentary admission to any
of Merlin Entertainments’ 100 attractions around the globe can go to
www.MerlinsMagicWand.org and apply.
“From Madame Tussauds Las Vegas to even LEGOLAND California in
Carlsbad, Calif., Merlin’s Magic Wand makes it possible for all
disadvantaged children to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience at our
attractions at no cost to them or their families,” says Cole Kouvaris,
marketing manager, Madame Tussauds Las Vegas.
On May 17, the children will arrive at approximately 11 a.m. Upon
arrival, they will receive a special welcome from a Merlin
Entertainments executive and will have a souvenir photo taken with
their preferred wax figure. Next, they will be invited to explore
Madame Tussauds all-new attraction, including the Marvel Super Heroes
4D Experience. The event will conclude with lunch with each child
receiving personalized Madame Tussauds gift bags. The children were
asked prior to the event about their favorite characters and also
specific needs such as clothing, school supplies and items for summer.
The children will depart the attraction by 2 p.m.

Seeing Hoover Dam can be a Boatload of Fun
Considered one of the top 10 construction achievements of the 20th
century, Hoover Dam is a must-see for anyone traveling to or from Las
Vegas. While spectacular, the more than 1 million visitors that see it
annually typically only see it from one perspective, the top. However
another, more relaxing, option is by paddlewheeler on Lake Mead.
Talk about a southern Nevada tourist’s smorgasbord of fun… The
Desert Princess Paddlewheel Tour Boat that plies the waters of Lake
Mead offers a wide-array of choices for seeing Hoover Dam outside the
typical tour or bus stop.
No doubt, the menu of tours available on the stately cousin of a
Mississippi river boat has one — maybe two –cruises that will satisfy
every tourist’s hopes for a memorable water-borne exploration of the
lake’s scenic grandeur, including Hoover Dam. And they all are all
less than an hour’s drive from Las Vegas.
Here’s a sampling of Desert Princess’ offerings:
Sight-seeing cruise — A 90-minute, narrated sight-seeing cruise
through the lake’s breathtaking Boulder Basin into Black Canyon to
view the magnificent Hoover Dam; $26 p/p, $13 children 2-11.
Sunset dinner cruise — A two-hour Lake Mead sunset dinner cruise that
includes a three-course meal (beef, chicken, fish or vegetarian
entries) and full-service bar service; $61.50 p/p, $25 child 2-11.
Sunday brunch cruise — A 90-minute Sunday champagne brunch cruise
offering a full buffet-style brunch, mid-morning breezes, Hoover Dam
and the camera-straining views of Boulder Basin; $45 p/p, $19.50 child
Special events cruise — By chartering the Desert Princess, your
special group — corporate outing, family reunion, holiday or private
party — really gets the special treatment. You can customize your
event to match your needs, including full dining and bar options.
Wedding cruse — A unique, spectacular and memorable setting for that
special day, can accommodate up to 200 and includes wedding cake and
champagne toast. Smaller wedding parties can reserve a Top Deck
package within the regular cruise schedule.
Cruising Lake Mead is a great alternative for seeing Hoover Dam.
