It is always special whenever one of our favorite television sitcom comedians appears live but seeing Kevin James and Ray Romano at the same time was a night to remember!
They are two completely different personalities, two men who have each perfected their own individual art of comedy. They are both so popular, that the Mirage Resort wisely books them alone and together.
The moment Kevin James walked on stage, the audience went wild. Kevin said, “Let’s start this party” and the fun began! He spoke about security at the airport, the pictures of the type of things you cannot take on a plane.
Kevin’s examples were so outlandishly funny, very unlikely objects for anyone to try to bring. He switched the subject to walkers with tennis balls then discussed people who want to take his picture but do not know anything about a camera.
With Kevin’s easy going conversational-style, he sometimes answered his own questions or asked the audience to imagine certain comic situations. Kevin’s used his acting skills as he dramatized some of his lines.
He shared a quick peek into his life with the audience. Kevin’s stories about his wife, Steffiana, two daughters, and himself were priceless. They meant so much more to the audience.
Like most people, Kevin complained about eating too much and was happy he has been losing weight. In fact, Kevin includes a routine about one temptation- cinnamon rolls.
Starring as Doug Heffernen, everybody’s lovable blue-collar worker, the IPS delivery man on his hit CBS sitcom series “King of Queens”, Kevin kept to his television image of being every man, a “regular guy”.
People can identify with Kevin, his home life and daily problems. “King of Queens” ran nine years and is now is in syndication in the United States and around the world. Kevin was nominated for an EMMY as outstanding lead actor in the “King of Queens” comedy series.
Kevin James seems to be able to find humor in almost any subject. Kevin’s show is laughs, laughs, and more laughs! His comedy was a great look at life as Kevin sees it! This was a change to find a comedian who did not have to use “X”- rated language to be funny.
Kevin James is refreshing, with a natural ability to make people laugh.
Kevin’s talents range further than being a successful stand-up comedian and television star, he wrote, produced, and appeared as the lead in Columbia pictures’ comedy “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”, this year.
Other films that created a stir were “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” co-starring with Adam Sandler, in 2007, and his big screen debut in “Hitch”, with Will Smith, in 2005.
Their careers seem to be paralleling and connecting through the years. There is so much to say about Ray Romano’s exceptional talents as a stand- up comedian, his down home-style of comedy, and Mega-successful sitcom “Everyone Loves Raymond”; I reviewed Ray in another feature article.
