With a population of only 300 people, the Oak Glen village offers more activities than most larger cities. Although hidden in the San Bernardino Mountains, they welcome thousands of visitors.
Food is important on any trip.
Breakfast is more than just bacon and eggs at the Serendipity Ranch Bed & Breakfast. Nina and Bill Foster, the owners, take pride in their breakfast and make it special.
Their breakfast is as good as dining at a luxury resort. Most people think of a gourmet dinner but do not expect a gourmet breakfast.
Breakfast takes first place when Sous Chef Bill and Chef Nina prepare the feast.
Nina explained, “We vary the menus daily and keep track of the returning guests so they would not eat the same breakfast twice.”
The couple begins about one hour to an hour-and-a-half before the guests eat as they need the time to prepare everything for the breakfast.
For the first day’s breakfast, the eggs were mixed with Dijon mustard, yogurt, parsley, herbs and chives then baked in individual ramekins (cups). Nina did not use regular sausage, she served chicken apple gouda sausage.
Nina prepared the pears with brown sugar, cinnamon, apple juice and butter then baked them in the oven. The sweetness of the pear was like a natural dessert, a highlight of the stay.
These full country-style breakfasts are enjoyed every day.
Nina spreads out all of the ingredients in her large kitchen while the double oven and warming drawer keep the food perfect for guests.
They serve food from their own herb and vegetable gardens as well as their fruit trees.
Another example of Nina’s “Five Star” breakfasts, baked pears were filled with goat cheese and cream cheese filling.
Nina keeps a selection of recipes for vegetarian, gluten free, vegan and special diet breakfasts.
Oak Glen Village schedules too many events and activities to mention, but you can look below for a list of a few of them.
