it comes to campaigning for one or another candidate, and that is why
the community should start to learn equally about all candidates now.
They should pay as much attention to the people who are involved with
and run the candidates’ campaigns as to the candidates themselves, to
make sure that the candidates are not weak and are not controlled by
manipulators that hide under the “political consultant” or “campaign
These individuals, male or female, have great control over the
candidates that they are “representing” and are well aware that the
political future of these candidates are in their hands, as well as
the political future of their own career.
One of these alleged campaign managers once told the Las Vegas Tribune
that he was instrumental in bringing Oscar Goodman to Las Vegas City
Hall; he was told by an executive of this newspaper that the only ones
responsible for Oscar Goodman being our Mayor were the voters of the
city of Las Vegas.
As campaign managers, they are certainly collecting a paycheck and
getting to eat a lot at all the campaign fund-raisers.
In the old days, those campaign managers, campaign consultants, or
whatever title they liked to go by, used to work hard for their money:
they put up yard signs, they raised money, they recruited volunteers
to answer the phone, and managed the campaign headquarters by working
hand-in-hand with all the volunteers — those who received no salaries
— so they, the volunteers with a paycheck and a little clout with the
candidate, could look good in the eyes of the community and the eyes
of future candidates looking for help.
Today the campaign managers tell the candidates, “You need to go out
and raise money” so we can place advertising with those who give me a
kickback, or a commission, for placing the ad with them.
Today, campaign managers, campaign consultants — or any other title
they choose to put before or after their names — would rather be
caught dead than be caught placing a sign in anyone’s yard, asking
anyone for a campaign contribution, or doing anything as simple as
answering a telephone that has been ringing more than five times
because “I am not a telephone-answerer,” “it is not my job,” and “ I
am only here to collect my paycheck.”
The candidate that puts himself or herself in the hands of these
“suitcase pimp” managers or consultants don’t deserve to get elected
because when they win, if they win, they are not going to be in
charge; they are going to be taking everything under advisement; they
are going to have to think about it and “sleep on it” for a couple of
The truth is that when a campaign “suitcase pimp” manager does
something unethical, unprofessional, dubious or wrong, the only one
responsible for that suitcase pimp’s behavior or misconduct will be
As a rule, the candidates are blindsided with their campaign suitcase
pimp until they lose, and then they realize that what they have read
in the Las Vegas Tribune was not just rant and rave, and it is quite
an eye-opener for them.
There was once the case of a Nevada Assemblyman that wanted to go back
to Carson City and hired a “campaign manager.” The only time he got to
see his campaign manager was at lunchtime at a popular political
hotspot; then, after the former assemblyman paid the lunch bill, the
suitcase pimp had to run, he had “a million things to do.”
A well respected, well-liked judge was heard saying who his campaign
manager was going to be; this judge won his last election all by
himself, with no campaign manager, no one telling anyone what, how, or
when to do it. But this year he is planning to hire a suitcase pimp
and the good judge may lose after the first term.
The person lobbying the campaign manager was heard saying that a
selected campaign manager elected half of the judges; how can anyone
be so ignorant?
These judges were elected by the popular vote and not by a campaign
manger or a suitcase pimp. The voters of Clark County elected every
one of these judges and everyone else in any other elected position —
unless they are using the same culinary union voters, or Harry Reid’s
members of the cemetery community in cahoots with the “Republicans for
Harry Reid” organization, where no one can predict where the votes are
Judges, or any other candidate aspiring to become an elected official,
that allow the campaign manager to manipulate, control, coerce and
dominate their behavior and actions, should never be elected to any
