When we entered the Melia Cabo San Lucas Resort, the atmosphere was startling! Melia’s multi-million dollar renovation’s expenditures were well worth the money. The resort describes it as “Passion by Design”, where everything blends together to create the feeling of being in a hideaway, a place of beauty and adventure. Melia is secluded, yet within a short walking distance of downtown restaurants and shops. Nestled on the sands of Playa el Medano (Medano Beach), they boast of having the only swimable beach in Cabo San Lucas. And this is the famous Nikki Beach Club where the rich and famous play at night! One of 10 worldwide and the focal point of Cabo nightlife, Nikki Beach Club is described by the London Observer as “the sexiest place on earth”. You will enjoy a variety of entertainment and specials: Live Cuban show 2-5 P. M. and Sushi Happy Hour ($2 plates) 6-9 P. M., Fridays. Fire dance show 8-10 P. M., Thursdays and Saturdays. Brunch 10 A. M.- 3 P. M., Sundays. The beach club is open every day from 9 A. M.-
11:30 P. M. There is a pool bar, food, and free towel service. The Melia says, “This is just for you, tell only your closest friends!” It is not a secret, but one of the favorite gathering places of tourists and locals. Guests of the resort are offered complimentary access to the Nikki Beach Club.
We chose one of the couch beds which line the beach and the resort’s tropical outdoor patio. It was so comfortable lying there listening to the waves, looking up at the stars! After this wonderful brief interlude, Mike and I walked a few steps to the restaurant. With views of the Pacific Ocean and the famous El Arco (the Arch), diners enjoy the best in “Global Cuisine”, an interpretation of Asian and Mediterranean dishes either al fresco illuminated by lanterns of the restaurant or for special occasions, romantic dinners arranged on the beach, with your own private server. Guests realize they can be carefree, relaxed, and forget about the world. This is a delectable collection of sounds and tastes served in the most sensuous atmosphere.
Just steps from the surf, the restaurant’s menu had interesting selections. With a hint of the Caribbean, the grilled lobster was crowned with a tropical mango and papaya salad. I love coconut shrimp and their Pankoco shrimp was fantastic! The shrimps were cooked with fresh coconut and served with a mango dipping sauce. They even had Indonesian chicken Satay in a sesame-marinate with a spicy peanut sauce. Their crispy skin Chilean salmon had a combination of tastes- sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese in a basil potato puree. Try the juicy New York steak topped with shitake garlic cabernet sauce. The restaurant offered 7 different sushi rolls and special sushi platters for 2-4-or more people served on exotic platters. The setting, the food, and the mood were perfect! Sushi menu: $11-15. Special sushi platters (2-4-or more people): $43-99. Entrees: $18-48. Salads: $12-16. Appetizers: $7-13.
Cabo’s leisure activities include world class fishing tournaments, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, kite boarding, sail boarding, parasailing, and the world famous Cabo beaches. ATV’s are a popular way to get around the city and the dunes. “Baja has become my favorite place to build golf courses,” Jack Nicholas commented after designing 63 holes in this area.
