Thirty-eight individuals have applied for these positions and the commission will select three nominees for each vacant seat.
Among the applicants for open seats in the Eighth Judicial District are well known criminal defense attorney John Glenn Watkins, who is known for his ethics and professionalism and has gained a stellar reputation among his colleagues and clients; and attorney Chris T. Rasmussen, a well known defense attorney practicing in Nevada and Federal courts with the law firm of Rasmussen & Kang.
Judge Susan Johnson’s husband, Eric Johnson, a longtime member of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada, is also among the applicants, making this the first time a married couple would serve on the bench at the same time, if he were to be selected, giving rise to the possibility of impropriety.
The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection conducts all interviews, deliberations and voting in public sessions, except where it is deemed necessary or appropriate to enter into an Executive Session because of the sensitive nature of matters or information to be discussed.
The names of the finalists will be forwarded to Governor Brian Sandoval for his review and final selection.
