Thoughts on school shootings

  • March 9, 2018

Well, not that anyone was sitting around expecting it to happen any day, but it finally did happen: threats of school shootings or terrorist threats have come to Pahrump. Apparently there have been several threats this past week regarding shootings or killings here in Pahrump: one made by an 11-year-old girl in a Snapchat post; one found on a bathroom wall at Pahrump Valley High School, which read, “I’m gonna kill everyone March 5” (referred to as a ‘terrorist tactic’ by[…]

Why can’t we all just get along?

  • February 26, 2018

While John Lennon sang about peace, and preached about everyone just getting along, that could only happen if we all understood each other. Or, to put it another way, if we were all on the same page — meaning that everyone involved in “the conversation” understood what the conversation was about — there would be hope that we could actually accept our differences and not attack those who think and act differently from ourselves. And while Rodney King also asked a[…]

Halfway through January: Have you made any changes yet?

  • January 21, 2018

I’ve always tended to be an optimist, looking on the bright side of life. There’s always something one can feel good about; and if it doesn’t immediately come to mind, a little musing should be able to bring it to the surface. Positive things don’t always have to be happy things, but it feels better to dwell on them anyway, rather than on all the things that can bring one down. So you’re not in perfect health right now, but[…]

Mountain lions are the new danger in Pahrump

  • January 12, 2018

Well, here I am, back home from my seven-week vacation in Cedar Park, Texas. Most of my fun activities took place in Austin — and there were several of them: Christmas concerts, Christmas movies, Christmas exhibits, seeing the beautiful sights of the Christmas lights, and even touring a most unusual village, which I will write about next week, complete with photos. And as anyone who has visited family out of town knows, there cannot be any guarantee that just because one[…]

If you can’t resist forcing yourself on others, don’t go into politics, religion, or any position of power

  • November 16, 2017

Most of us understand the noticeable and basic differences between men and women. But some don’t really know the particular thought differences between the sexes that men themselves tell us about, and which are apparently true, according to various experts who have written articles and books about the subject and have conducted extensive interviews with men across all spectrums of manhood. Men think about sex, in one way or another, “all” the time (don’t[…]

Texas Terrorist: All terrorists are not Muslim

  • November 13, 2017

Thank goodness the Texas terrorist is no longer among the living to vent his rage at anyone else. Yes, if one wreaks hate and vengeance upon anyone, and creates fear in a person’s heart, that person is a terrorist. Although this terrorist did not get to kill the person he obviously hated with all his life, he still “needed” to let out his rage and vengeance on that little church full of worshipers, killing 26[…]

Pranks and stupid ideas can cause DEATH:

  • October 25, 2017

A willful and wanton act results in life-changing consequences How many times have we seen something happen that caused us to say, “Thank goodness nobody got killed”? We might not personally have been guilty of a willful and wanton act that led us to say such a thing, but we know darn well that young people — like that group of five teenagers on the overpass this week — often do things without taking the[…]
