By Detective Gordon Martines
I have had the honor and privilege of carrying the Badge of Law
Enforcement for almost 40 years. Interestingly, I was a police officer
in two states, California and Nevada, at the same time, for
approximately two weeks when I started working for Metro in 1978.
Beginning in 2001, I decided to run for the position of Sheriff of
Clark County Nevada and have continued to run for that position ever
I have immensely enjoyed the political meetings, rallies, debates,
meet-and-greets, or just plain political interactions with any and
all, as there is a tremendous amount of information learned and
exchanged at these functions.
One of the very first things that I always do when I meet a political
individual or political group is to identify myself as a law
enforcement officer. From that point on, any/all information exchanged
is subject to review by any and all, and can possibly initiate some
type of further criminal investigation, if warranted.
Over the years, information gathered from these political meetings —
which attract both law-abiding civil-minded citizens and,
unfortunately, criminals as well — has resulted in the following
initiated criminal investigations, prosecutions, and convictions:
Illegal wire tapping at the Frontier Hotel and Casino; three Child
Molestation cases surfacing; four Child Abuse cases; 12 Disability
Fraud cases; two Voter Fraud cases; two Murder cases by citizens, and
four Murder cases allegedly committed by the LVMPD; two Serial Murder
suspects allegedly exposed within the LVMPD; four Cover-up Officer
Involved Fatal Shooting investigations; Malfeasance and Nepotism cases
in the LVMPD; five Domestic Violence cases in the LVMPD; one cover-up
Fraudulent Completed LVMPD Homicide Investigation; two Hit and Run
investigations; 10 Narcotics Trafficking and Distribution cases; the
assisted exposure of the Phony Narcotics Dog scandal; and finally, the
2002 One Billion Dollar theft from Nevada Taxpayers to a private
company called EICON. I am sure there is more to come.
Information gathered regarding the personal use and small amount
possession of the felonious infamous weed called Marijuana (Pot) was
so prevalent that it was pretty much commonplace in most political
conversations. However, when the conversation about the personal use
of smoking (pot) also involved a Minor Child, who was in the sole care
and custody of the self-righteous pot-smoker, the conversation took a
deliberate and drastic turn and now became a criminal investigation
that involved child abuse, child neglect and child endangerment
elements. The commonplace casual felonious admitted pot-smoker
basically could now eventually expect a knock on their door from Child
Protective Services, Department of Family Services, and possibly from
the LVMPD Abuse and Neglect section, where the welfare of an innocent
child is of prime importance, even in Nevada.
A word of warning from this old badge-carrying veteran cop: “That
Badge never comes off and is permanently fused to my heart, as is the
Oath of Law Enforcement, so be very cautious what you do and say
around me.” Be and Stay Safe.
