The Brewery Gulch Inn’s website was so inviting, they even suggest a “Once-in-a-Lifetime” 4 day, 3 nights guided tour and “Guy & Sarah’s Romantic Weekend” self-driving tour. Does the Inn really have a lot to offer?
I rented a car at the Santa Rosa Sonoma County Airport, adjusted my GPS and drove through the
Redwood Forest. The roads lead to a part of the northern California coast that seemed more like a wilderness area in contrast to the more populated sections.
With just over 1,000 population, Mendocino’s historic downtown is a charming view of early Americana.
Just a few minutes from Mendocino, the Brewery Gulch Inn was surrounded by nature and seemed like a retreat, a true getaway from the cities.
The romantic atmosphere would be great for weddings, elopements and may even help him propose.
Don’t miss the Whale Watching festival celebrating the gray whale migration is split into three celebrations: the one in Mendocino is held during the first weekend in March; the second is held in Little River during the second weekend in March; and the final one, in Fort Bragg, is held during the third weekend in March.
The Little River Whale Festival offers a tasting tour as well as an art and nature adventure Passport Contest to introduce you to the local hidden secrets.
In Fort Bragg, Micro-brew tastings and a chowder competition will be the featured attractions at this two-day event. An art exhibit and a crafts fair will round out the weekend.
Many of the local wineries set up tasting stations in Mendocino at galleries and shops throughout the area. Top chefs create their favorite seafood chowders and offer them at a tasting competition. There are plein-air painting demonstrations and docent-led walks at various spots in Mendocino. http://www.mendocino.com/activities.html
Awakened with anticipation of experiencing the Inn and exciting area, I was impressed that everything was tailored toward the guests. I felt comfortable relaxing and planning my day while the friendly staff were also helpful with suggestions. You will find the Inn different from the usual hotel.
