Alice Ripley Brought Broadway to Las Vegas
Tony award winner Alice Ripley’s golden voice mesmerized her audience at The Space Theater. After years of appearing in New York, Alice brought Broadway to Las Vegas.
“Ripley Reflects” included some Broadway, some love songs and a delightful variety of musical numbers. Alice expressed her own emotional interpretations to each song.
I felt privileged to be seeing such tasteful renditions of these famous songs.
Former “Rock of Ages” singer Mark Shunock, owner of The Space, chose unique shows to introduce the public to his new theater. After refurbished the building with a sound studio, a 350 seat theater, lounge and kitchen, Mark is now ready for action.
Mark is the originator of Mondays Dark, a way for Las Vegas performers to appear to assist charities on their day off, usually Monday. The Space is a nonprofit company offering an 8,900-square-foot building bringing off-the-strip entertainment for charity.
Alice Ripley earned critical acclaim and won the Best Actress in a Musical Tony and Helen Hayes Awards for her work as Diana in the Pulitzer Prize-winning rock opera Next to Normal. Alice received Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations for her work as conjoined twin, Violet Hilton, in the cult hit Side Show.
As part of the original Broadway casts, Alice created the roles of Mrs. Bateman and Mrs. Wolfe in American Psycho, Janet in The Rocky Horror Show, Molly Ivors in James Joyce’s The Dead, Betty Schaefer in Sunset Boulevard, the Specialist’s Assistant in The Who’s Tommy, and Bathsheba in King David. She also had a long stay at the Imperial Theatre as Fantine in Les Miserables.
Alice stars in the award-winning indie musical movie SUGAR!, which recently gained distribution and made a presence on the 2016 festival circuit. Other film work includes Sing Along, Isn’t It Delicious, Muckland, Bear with Us, The Adulterer, and The Way I Remember It (starring Christine Ebersole).
Alice is also an accomplished musician and has written and produced her own music. Recordings include: “Daily Practice: Vol 1,” “Everything’s Fine,” “Outtasite” and “RIPLEY EP,” as well as numerous Broadway cast and compilation albums. Each fall, Alice returns to Buenos Aires for the annual Next to Casi Normales concerts, co-starring Jennifer Damiano, Josefina Scaglione and Fernando Dente.
