We have no rail system to speak of unless you consider the overpriced monorail monstrosity that takes you from nowhere to nowhere. Why, I ask, does a world-class city and tourist destination such as Las Vegas lag so far behind in the development of light rail? There is no viable excuse. How can a smaller city with much less tourist income and commerce, such as Salt Lake City, for example, offer FREE light rail while Vegas offers virtually nothing? This is outrageous.
Promises, empty promises; that is all the powers that be have to offer. I suggest that you, my fellow Las Vegas residents, join my crusade to bring the much needed light rail system to our village. I envision a basic starter system from McCarran to Downtown and from Summerlin to Green Valley or Henderson.
I want the system up and running 24 hours a day as soon as possible. No more vague promises and certainly no more excuses. Money…there is plenty of it. No one raised an eyebrow when your representatives decided to add four or five cents in taxes to every gallon of gas purchased in Clark County to fund ludicrous time- and money-wasting highway projects. Let’s start funneling some of our tax dollars to this much needed system. I envision a system that has human interaction and not some automated system with no human participation. I suggest a rail system somewhat similar to the famous trolley car systems of San Francisco or New Orleans. Put an engineer in the engine, put conductors and security
personnel to work. Make it a consumer- and environmentally-friendly light rail system.
I predict this light rail train will become another tourist attraction that residents and visitors alike will want to experience. I personally plead to you, Mayor Goodman, and all other pertinent Clark County Commissioners and elected officials, to seriously address my passionate plea to create this light rail system for our beloved Las Vegas.
Not only will I be grateful, but everyone will be grateful — especially your sons and daughters, your grandsons and granddaughters. They will thank you for your foresight and your initiative.
