Accomplished racer and Hollywood actor Patrick Dempsey will return to off-road racing competition later this month in the General Tire Mint 400, March 20 – 24, where he will drive in the Zero One Odysseys Desert Challenge class.
Dempsey is a veteran of Baja 1000 competition but has spent the last few years in the top levels of sports car road racing in North America and beyond. Last year was a busy race season of competition that saw Dempsey drive a prototype Lola-Judd in the American Le Mans Series, a Mazda RX-8 GT in GRAND-AM as well as a Maserati and Aston Martin. He will make his debut race in a Dempsey Del Piero Racing Porsche GT3
with co-driver and motorsports business partner Joe Foster and new teammate Andy Lally in next month’s 12 Hours of Sebring, just one weekend before his return to off-road action in the Mint.
“I am really looking forward to the Mint,” Dempsey said. “The history of the Mint 400 is great, I will be able to get more seat time and the Zero One cars are great when it comes to really working on your car
control. It’s always a fun event in those cars, they are a blast, I have run them a few times in the Baja 1000 and it is just one more opportunity to drive something different that helps your ability to adapt quickly in any conditions.”
The General Tire Mint 400 is the oldest, roughest, most spectacular off-road race in North America. It was started in 1967, and is steeped
in American lore, as thousands of racers as well as celebrities from around the world have attempted to tame the brutal Nevada desert. With
over 300 race teams, 20 classes of vehicles, and more than 20 thousand spectators, the Mint 400 is currently the biggest off-road race in the
world. Now owned by The Martelli Brothers, The Mint 400 is part of the Best in The Desert Off-Road Championship.
“The car control really translates over to road racing,” Dempsey said. “The off-road cars are so loose and there is so much travel in the
suspension that it really gives you a lot of comfort ability when getting used to a car that is loose in any kind of racing.
Dempsey will join the ranks of other racers and Hollywood icons that have competed in the Mint 400. The illustrious list includes Parnelli
Jones, Al Unser, Rick Mears, Rodger Ward, Mickey Thompson, Ivan Stewart, Walker Evans, Robby Gordon, Rod Hall and Dempsey’s fellow
actors Steve McQueen and James Garner. The Mint 400 adventure will also be followed by a documentary crew for Discovery. For the last year, they’ve been capturing Dempsey on and off the track as he prepares for his return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time since 2009 this June. The show will air in four parts in August and will weave Dempsey’s story with the history of other “racers that act” like McQueen, Garner and Paul Newman.

BILL MAHER LANDS AT THE PEARL FOR 2013 RESIDENCY
Comedian, television host, political commentator and best-selling
author Bill Maher will make the Pearl Concert Theater inside Palms
Casino Resort his 2013 home with performances on the following dates:
March 23-24, June 8-9, Sept. 6-7 and Nov. 2-3, 2013.
Show times are 8 p.m. Tickets start at $45, plus additional service
fees and tickets for the March 23-24 dates go on sale Friday, Jan. 11
at noon.
Maher began his career as a stand-up comedian in 1979 and still
performs at least 50 dates a year in sold out theaters across the
country. Three of his nine stand-up specials for HBO, 2007’s “The
Decider,” 2005’s “I’m Swiss” and the most recent special “Bill
Maher… But I’m Not Wrong,” have been nominated for Emmy awards.

Singer-songwriter, rapper, producer, actor and professional “lady
killer” CeeLo Green first came onto the music scene as a member of the
hip-hop group Goodie Mob along with Big Gipp, T-Mo and Khujo. They
released their debut album “Soul Food” in 1995, pioneering them to the
top of the emerging Southern rap scene. Goodie Mob released two more
albums and is currently back in the studio working on a new album.
After CeeLo’s success with Goodie Mob, he successfully reinvented
himself and formed Gnarls Barkley with deejay-producer Danger Mouse.

Following Gnarls Barkley, CeeLo put his time back into a true solo

Performance,” and another single off the album, “Fool For You,” won

from March 1-31 to celebrate all the college basketball action in
March.

Celebrate NASCAR weekend in Las Vegas with RaceJam 2013 at Fremont
Street Experience March 7-10. The weekend will feature drink specials,
NASCAR merchandise booths and four days of rockin’ entertainment from
Southern Stue, Bonfire, Fairchild, Sam Riddle, The Jay Bolan Band,
Ryan Whyte Maloney Band with a special headliner performance from KIX
on Saturday, March 9.

THE IMPROV AT HARRAH’S: MARCH 5 – MARCH 10
Each week, The Improv showcases three of the funniest and freshest
faces in comedy, creating a show that is always unique and definitely
funny. The comedians who will perform March 5 – March 10 are:
Max Alexander: Max Alexander is one of the top corporate comics in the
country and has performed over the years for companies such as
McDonalds, Buick, Home Depot and Acura. He was one of the few comics
to perform on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Alexander has also
appeared in Comedy Central’s “Best of the Improv, Vol. 5” and “Comedy
Club Greats” with Jerry Seinfeld.
Frazer Smith: Frazer Smith is one of the best known stand-up comics in
all of California and is considered one of the best one-liners in the
country today. “The Green Room” is his hot show on All Comedy Radio,
which is aired in over 160 markets nationwide. Smith has been a radio
favorite in Los Angeles for the past 20 years and has interviewed
everyone from comics to big named celebrities. Smith is no stranger to
live comedy and his interviewing style is synonymous with the likes of
Johnny Carson, Jay Leno and David Letterman.
Jonny Loquasto: Jonny Loquasto began his comedy career in Los Angeles
nightclubs after earning a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy. From
stand-up to hosting a weekly wrestling show, Loquasto does it all. He
has hosted shows for the Gameshow Network, TBS, CBS Sports & CBS
Mobile’s Comedy Channel, and Break.com. He’s also written two sitcom
pilots & has his own show at the Brea & Irvine Improv Comedy Clubs
titled “Last Call Comedy.”
Shows are at 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Tickets are
