When you are bored with the ordinary vacation, Mexicana Airlines gives you the extraordinary! The solution is to escape to Los Cabos, the “other” side of Mexico. Known for their famous Arch (Los Arcos) natural rock formation, you will find that the food is unbelievable and the resorts incredible! The Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar Resort is nestled along 28 acres fronting the Sea of Cortez, adjourning 2 golf courses.
Everything is at your fingertips. You will love walking along the resort’s cobblestone streets, to take your time and sit at their fountains. Your most difficult decision is whether to swim in one of the two cascading pools or the infinity pool.
When you ready for a gourmet’s delight. Just a few steps from the beach, the D’ Cortez Grill & Restaurant prepares their entrees on a wood grill. When you bite into their prime steaks, you will realize the difference! The steaks are specially cut to portions of 14 ounce New York and rib eye steaks, 20 ounce cowboy steaks, and 24 ounce porterhouse steaks.
Chef Angelina adds an artistic touch to the Crown of Rack Lamb. Angelina takes several ribs, leaves them together, and only cuts off the lamb loin meat. It is served with the ribs standing up in the middle of the plate and pieces of lamb around them.
One delicious appetizer crab in a cocoon- cooked in its shell- is very tender and juicy! Their truffled medallions of sea bass have a tasty combination of flavors. Another specialty, Veal cutlet prepared in champagne perfumed Morrel sauce.
Choose from 5 restaurants: Tomates (international), Pitahayas (5 star diamond awarded restaurant), Girasoles (Mexican), D’ Cortez Grill (prime steaks and seafood), and Las Sirenas (poolside palapa). Stop at the Tequila bar La Suerte to taste one of their 100 Tequilas. The resort offers a spa, fitness center, cocktail lounges, shopping, and children’s activity programs.

Located on the southern tip of the 1,000 mile long Baja California Peninsula, Los Cabos offers four exciting areas: East Cape, San Jose del Cabo, the Tourist Corridor, and Cabo San Lucas. In the 40’s, San Lucas and San Jose were small isolated fishing villages surrounded by the desert and sea. John Steinbeck chartered a boat in Monterey in order to explore the area, and wrote “The Log from the Sea of Cortez”. Hollywood discovered Los Cabos in the 50’s! John Wayne and Bing Crosby enjoyed the plentiful deep sea fishing and brought film crews to produce newsreels. The area was desolate, there were no roads or commercial flights. Tourists had to fly to La Paz and find a small private plane to take them to Los Cabos. Early visitors included Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Sophia Loren, Carlos Ponti, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Roy Rogers, Ernest Hemingway, and others. The historic Palmilla Hotel, a 15 room luxury resort with their own landing strip, was built in 1956 and is still open. Today Los Cabos is known as the “Marlin and Billfish Capitol of the World”, drawing thousands of sports fishermen annually to angle for striped, blue and black marlin, as well as sailfish, skipjack, yellowfin tuna, dorado, yellowtail, wahoo and much more. Their strict throwback policy ensures that most of those fish will still be there for years to come. Among several fishing tournaments, the Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament (November) is the biggest tuna fishing tourney in Baja with over $600,000 in prizes.
